front seal look good?
Hey folks,
Finally got some time in the shop. Some "above zero degrees" time!
I pulled the tc and finally got a look at the front seal that was supposed to have been replaced when I bought the car. It seems rubbery and flexes when touched. It does seem that since I'm there I should just replace it. Is that a tough job? Just yank out the old and push in the new?

Also, uhh...I pulled a boner and couldn't resist scraping some of the grit off the top of the tranny....with the tc laying underneath. And yes, with the opening pointing up, D'OH! Any way to clean that out? I don't think it got much in there but even a little would be, I assume, bad.

Looks clean, doesn't appear to have been leaking in the past.
If you do decide to replace the seal, knock the old one out with a chisel and pry bar. Pack the inside of the new seal with Vaseline. Its pretty easy to knock the small garter spring out of the seal when driving it in. The Vaseline will hold the spring in place, and will provide plenty of lube when starting the trans for the first time. Don't use wheel bearing grease, it wont dissolve in the trans fluid.
