Flushing transmission - safe or not?
Hi,
I have a TH350 in my '72 thats lost some fluid on the driveway, possibly due to a leaky filler tube or pan gasket. The fluid is still red, but just looks really really old.
Is ti safe to take it in to have the filter/fluid changed and have it flushed? I've heard good and bad about the flushing process.
Can anyone relate some first hand experience?

From what I've read about and talked to several trans owners about, it varies upon what kind of machine they are using, and how many miles you've gone between fluid changes. If it's hooked up to the cooling lines, that's okay to use, because it only pumps in NEW fluid for whatever is pumped out at the normal operating pressures.
My buddy who owns a trans shop for nearing 30 years doesn't like them or think they are needed. He said more harm then good comes from them in his opinion when the new fluid additives loosen up gunked up stuff and it goes haywire.
There's a TON of information about this on the web. Just google it.
Here's one educated response.

There's this type of thing on the market now which SOME people claim is the best out there.
