Counterfeit Trabsgo 4L80E HD2 shift kit
Counterfeit Trabsgo 4L80E HD2 shift kit
I bought one off Amazon, should have known the price was too good. Plain brown box with generic wording but similar part number. Inside, no instructions, all springs black, which supposedly can break and an allen bolt that need a hole drilled through or you burn out 4th gear. Of course it had no hole in that allen bolt. It is getting returned. The cheapest price for one that looks legit is $200 CAD shipped from Ebay. Everything through them from the US takes weeks. I may just skip the shift kit at my power level. Even if I go aluminum heads and roller cam, the torque would only be around the factory 440 ft-lbs rating, which is supposed to be conservative. This trans supposedly has 60,000 Km since the GM reman.
Riddle me this, Batman: what does a shift kit do in an electrically controlled transmission. I would think that could be accomplished in the tune, no?
Most of the Transgo kits I've seen are $5-800usd, and have all new frictions.

All you can do with the tune is crank up line pressure, and change shift points. Shift kits usually include different pressure regulator spring to raise line pressure (allowing the PCM to fine tune the pressure with the pressure control solenoid) and springs to fine tune the accumulators.
If the transmission is out, don’t use the TransGo shift kit. Get the calibration kit from Jakes Performance. It’s a MUCH better kit. Unfortunately, it does require minor transmission disassembly to install. This gives you an opportunity to inspect some of the internals.
If you use the TransGo kit, don’t do any of the pressure relief modifications. There have been numerous issues with the relief system sticking open and venting excessive pressure.

Jake no longer ships internationally, so that is a no go. I will skip the Transgo kit at my power level. I will run the line pressure on the higher side in the Terminator programming since this is a fairly fresh reman and I want fitm shifts. From what I can find the converter stalls in the mid 2000's but who knows. Supposedly for an 09 Savana and the 6L LS had an injector stick and put the rod through the side of the block. It was having valve body issues and got a GM reman 60K before it's 6L untimely death at 180,000 km.
