Auto to Muncie Conversion - Parts/Labor Needed

I have a 1969 442 that I bought with a rebuilt 455 and auto transmission. I already have a Muncie 4 speed that I’m rebuilding that was my Fathers’. I have the linkage and the shifter with the transmission.

Is there step by step or process needed on the labor side to switch. I understand that I’ll need a clutch and other parts. Is there a conversion kit that I can buy?

I’d like to just go with a boot instead of the full console. Is there a kit for the retaining ring and boot? Anyone have photos of a 69 with just the boot on a manual shifter?

Thank you in advance.

Does the 455 that you want to bolt the Muncie to already have a crankshaft that is bored for the pilot bearing? Olds typically did not do that for engines that were bolted to automatics from the factory.

I doubt that it was the or a stock motor/trans but I will definitely look for that. Thank you!

Here is a list I found somewhere here (? ) for a 1968

may be somewhat helpful

4-speed transmission - GM rebuilt
Floor hump - GM used or repro
Console for 4 speed - (or don't use a console at all)
Muncie compatible driveshaft - GM rebuilt or aftermarket
Muncie driveshaft yoke (I think the TH400 yoke is the same)
Bell housing -
Bell housing inspection cover -
Shifter and correct ball -
Shifter linkage -
Shifter to transmission bracket -
Flywheel - GM Used or Aftermarket
Pedal Assembly and pads -
Jump wire for automatic neutral safety on column
Z-bar with new bushings-
Z-bar to clutch fork rod retaining spring
Z-bar frame bracket -
Back-up light switch & rod -
Back up light switch bracket
Clutch fork -
Clutch fork return spring
Clutch pedal to z-bar rod -
Speedometer cable - (68 also used a 90 degree cable adapter but the correct tooth speedo gear and a longer cable can be made to work w/out the adapter)
Engine ball stud -
Clutch pedal to z-bar rod boot & retaining ring -
Shifter boot & retaining ring -
Steering column lower support with hole for clutch pedal to z-bar rod -
Pressure plate, clutch disc, throw out bearing, pressure plate bolts, flywheel bolts -
MT Battery Cable -
MT Battery cable tube & bracket -
Firewall boot -

You only need the correct hump if you plan to use the factory boot. If an aftermarket Hurst SuperBoot is sufficient, you only need a hole in the floor (been there, done that)
Same thing for the shifter and ball - if you care about appearances you need correct OEM ones. If not, aftermarket is fine.
The TH400 yoke is not the same unless you have a late model M22.
The trans crossmember moves forward, which means you need the e-brake front and intermediate cables for a manual trans. The TH400 cables are the wrong lengths.

The Parts Place sells a conversion kit. Pedals, linkage etc. I don't recall the name of the site exactly but one guy who sells 4 speed linkage parts said the kit was pretty good, go ahead and use it. I'm doing the same thing with a '66 but I have a 4 speed crank already. I've read of a kit to use a 4 speed with a non 4 speed crank but you have to shorten the shaft that comes out the front of the trans. Some people have drilled into the back of the crank with the crank still in the motor and there's a conversion throwout bearing for that but drilling into cast iron is pretty hard.
