You're right, of course.
However, some of us just can't stop dreaming about "improving" our cars. Yes, it may be a sickness. And it can bring along unwanted companions if we don't think it all through well enough.
But every time I bury the throttle in a manual trans 455, 4.10-ratio car with 2200 pounds of traction over the rear tires, I love that juvenile feeling of having an 11-second car (until I get out of first, anyway).
And 6th, taching a quiet 2000 rpm at 80 mph, tells me that this is what Olds could have done back then if the parts had been available.
I drive a Vista Cruiser that Olds might have made to haul a young family but that could step it up on the occasion when the kids call out, "blow his doors off, Dad." It's a 442 and a Vista that takes up only one space in the garage.
