72 Cutlass w/stock 3 spd Trans
Does anyone have any suggestions for what to do with a stock 3 spd transmission in a 72 Cutlass with a 350 rocket in front? This is going to be a street cruiser, maybe take her to the strip a few times just to see what she will do. Are the stock 3 spd tranny's a good unit? Any suggestions on tuning, adding shift kits, etc. would be appreciated.

If it's an automatic, it should have a TH350. This is generally regarded to be one of the best transmissions of the era, and will handle just about anything the stock engine can put out. I would just make sure it is in good working order, and focus on other parts of the car.

Agree with Jetstar. I am having mine rebuilt right now. Original tranny in a 40 year old car. The seals had dried out. Tranny rebuilder said the tranny will hold up to 300HP easy. That is what I want to get when I do the engine upgrades.

A Trans Go shift reprogramming kit is a very nice upgrade to it if the tranny is already in good working order. Have had one in mine for about 200,000 miles now. Shifts smooth but positive at low rpm, when you step on the gas the shifts frim up nicely. You can also shift down into any gear you want , when you want it. Do not use a B & M kit, or even just the Trans Go shift kit. Get the Reprogamming kit.
