700R4 Lockup

Hey fellas,
Im new to this site and was looking for some help on a couple items. I have a 1987 Olds 442. putting in a rebuilt 700R4 with a shift kit with Carbed non computer controled engine. Can someone explain to me how to run a 12v wire from the brake pedal to the lockup connector on the tranny, so that every time I stop it cancels the lockup?

Thanks!

Wow.

If your 87 already had an OD transmission you already have 12 volts going thru the brake switch (4 wire switch) and to the TCC solenoid. From there it goes to the PCM and applies the ground when it sees fit. You are going to want to ground that wire and run the hot wire thru a 4th gear switch before going to the solenoid.

Hope that was helpful.

I was told that the 700R4 I will be getting isnt controlled by the computer so I need to run the 12v wire myself.

My 87 has the 200c OD tranny...

???

Ok. Your best bet is to buy something like the painless wiring kit like this: http://www.painlessperformance.com/w...rchField=60109

It will have directions on how to do your hook up.

If it's not computer controlled, all you need is a keyed 12 volt source - it's got quite a few relays inside.
Trans shop shoulda known this!

Im not going through a tranny shop, but a tranny guy. He told me its not computer controlled and that I need to run the wire. I was also told if I use the lock up kit that it can burn up the 4th gear band pretty quickly so he recommended doing the 12v wire to the brakes and splice it into the lockup connector so that everytime I stop it cancels the lock up. Problem is, Im not sure how to do that, where it gets wired to the brakes.

Thanks!

You need to have a switch in the trans for lock up in 4th or 3rd and 4th only. The 12 volt wire needs to go thru a 4 pin gm brake switch to the solenoid for lock up. Then it needs to be grounded directly or thru a vacuum switch.

The kit that I showed above uses the switch you will need along with all the other items it takes to make the lock up to work properly. If thats really what your tranny guy said, I'd be looking for another tranny guy.
