700-4r

I am toying with the idea of using a 700-4r that I have in my g-body. The hitch in my get-a-long is that it is a 4x4 version of said transmission. I have done this with 727s (gone back and forth between 4x4 and standard tails) but never with 700-4r. It it from an 89 suburban and has been recently rebuilt, so that is good. In any case, any suggestions?

To put the a 700R4 behind a Olds engine you will need a adapter for it to work. Then you will need to change the output shaft and get a tail shaft for the transmission. Which means taking the transmission all the way apart.

The GM transmissions use a different output shaft and tailhousing between 2WD and 4WD. The output shaft is the last part out of the case and the first one into the case on reassembly. It's a complete trans rebuild.
