Is a 61-64 slim Jim the same?

Long wheelbase Pontiacs (Bonneville/Star Chief) used the four-speed Super HMT (Jetaway in Olds-speak). The Catalina/GP used Slim Jim.
Why in the pluperfect hell Olds went to Slim Jims across the board 61-64, I can't figure.
But yes, a 64 Olds Slim Jim will fit and work in your 62. The big differences are valve bodies. Keep in mind that with SJ, "work" is often defined loosely...

Didn't Pontiac use an adapter bellhousing same as Olds? Olds piece is not as thick as Pontiac, and the 61-64 Pontiac piece uses the 65-later Turbo HydraMatic bolt pattern- which makes a THM conversion simple for Slim Jim equipped Pontiacs.
Steve, had forgot the 62 drove the speedometer off the trans. I'm too used to 63-later...

The front case cover is different between Pontiac and Olds . This is the adapter bellhousing you speak of. Other parts of the trans may or may not be the same.
The biggest problem with the slim-jim to THM conversion on a Pontiac is that 63 and earlier engine had a bellhousing mounted starter so they still require an adaper plate to mount the starter. 64's had a block that a starter could be mounted to.
