Exclamation 49 hydramatic shift problem

Have 49 hydramatic and when I try to put it into reverse the shift lever jumps out of my hand with a bang. Like I am trying to shove a screwdriver into a spinning gear. I have the slow idle at about 375 -4oo rpm . Would appreciate any suggestions. thanks Bob

They get adjusted once when the trans is assembled. Unless a band is replaced, there is no reason to do it again.

Thanks for the correction, I always thought that they could come out of adjustment over the years... I am always learning something new... Still aways to go though... haha
