1970 Rallye 350: Crossmember different TH400 to TH350?

I finally found the correct 70 coded TH350 (JL?) for my Rallye 350, and removed the Turbo 400 that had moved in sometime in the last 43 years. However, the crossmember doesn't line up with frame holes. I can get one hole on each side to line up, but that's not good enough.

Is the TH400 crossmember different than TH350? If not, is it possible that it was turned 180 degrees for the TH400, and it will find its home again when I spin it around?

I have a '70 post coupe in my boneyard w/ 350-350, so I can pirate the crossmember off it if necessary.

BTW, nice to be back, been away about a year.

There should only be two crossmembers, one for the convertible and Vista Cruisers with the fully boxed frame. Then the other for hardtop and post cars. The TH350 and Muncie 3 and 4 speeds should use one bolt location, the TH400 the other. I know there's more than one tailshaft length with the TH350's, but thought the transmission mount was in the same location for all. And if you believe the transmission you have has the correct code for the Rallye then existing bolt holes should line up.

OK, since this car has been messed with, I wonder if someone swapped in a different brand cross member? Since you have a spare in a parts car that might be the next logical step.

P.S. Welcome back Steve!

Thanks, John. I wonder if it has been turned 180 degrees, although the "front" is clearanced for pan access.

As noted, there is only one crossmember for open channel frames for the 1968-72 model years and it will not clear the trans mount if it is swapped 180 deg. The "clearanced" part goes towards the front of the car. The Olds crossmember is stamped plate as opposed to the tubular Chevy crossmember.

Update: It's All Good

I was using the wrong holes on left side, so it didn't line up on right or on tranny. I measured bolt placement on parts car, and it all worked out.

Thanks for all the help.
