where can i get a posi unit for a toronado ?

iv been doing alot of research and reading all day and i know you guys are probably opening this and gona tell me im just beating a dead horse. but i have to ask anyways for my self lol.

where can i get some sort of posi unit for a toronado ? my friends and i are looking to build up a toronado to take to the strip to toy with all the local ricers. figure we should beat them at their own game. that way we can get rid of their excuses about us having rwd and it not being an even match up against their fwd cars. should be fun beating a little 4banger fwd riceburner with a big old v8 powered fwd boat of a car lol. so who can point me in the direction of where to get some sort of posi unit.

Posi units are typically not offered on FWD cars as they can make for unusual steering responses. The high HP FWD ricer cars use expensive torque-sensing aftermarket diffs, or expensive electronic locking diffs. The GMC motorhome community may have developed a torque sensing diff for this application, but it won't be cheap.

The transaxle used in the Toronado was essentially a TH 400. You can't go wrong with a TH 400.

Welcome to the world of low-rate production. And you are correct, those are for the TH425 only.

you wouldnt happen to know of one that would work in the th325 or th325-4l would you ? we are currently looking at two cars one being an 84 with the th325-4l and the other being a mid 70s with the th425. and were sorta leaning to the 84

the link for the parts for the motor home gave me somthing else to search for and i managed to find a posi unit for the th125 so if there is one for the th125 and th425 it would only make sense that there is one for the th325/th325-4l right ?

You could inquire at the site that Joe P. provided, they might know of others being manufactured.

Not necessarily. Again, the TH425 units were specifically developed for the motorhome applications. The TH125 units are for the FWD sport compact crowd. There aren't too many people who hot rod a 1984 Toro... It's all about supply and demand, and demand is near zero for that unit.

i sent an email to the company with the motorhome parts and to the company that make the posi for the th125.
so far iv gotten a reply back from the company that makes the posi for the th125 they said that they currently make and sell a posi for the th425 and its actualy alot cheaper then the posi for the gmc motorhomes. and that they are very interested in making a posi for the th325 but that they need a core to do so. now if only i had a core at the moment to send them

Hey moderators, can we get a sticky on this topic? This question comes up often and would probably be a great sticky at the top of the Toronado section.

Thanks
Tim

DEADBIKER,
I have been searching for one for some time and I have found that Engineered Performance will build one. Jeff said that he would like to build more than one, so, if anyone would like to have a limited slip diff for their 78 to 85 Riviera, Eldorodo , Seville or Toronado give them a call at 404-394-5776 or email them at tech@engineered.net. And tell them Ray sent you.
They also have one for the older Toronado but they don't have these listed on their website.

Whoops, I forgot about this thread, even though I found it awhile ago... Someone else posted and I got an e-mail about it though... Anywhere, here is a place that has a posi unit for 1st Gen Toronado's... They even have different gear ratios available:
