Pitman arm

Anybody know if the 66-70 pitman arms interchange? Part books have it as 66 and 67-70 but I see no differences physically with them in place. Maybe if they sit side by side i would see it but i hate to pull 2 systems apart if i dont have to.

The difference may be in the taper of the ball-stud or the machined taper of the part into which the ball-stud fits.

I can't find this info right now, but GM used two different suppliers for Toronado steering components (Saginaw and another, TRW?). For whatever reason, the parts were nearly identical, the difference being in the taper of the ball-stud and mating parts.

I'll keep looking through my info. Somewhere I have a photo showing the ball-stud dimensions from the 2 suppliers.

If the Toronados were the same as the 98s I believe the 2 variants are Saginaw and Tecumseh. As you mentioned, the difference is in the size and taper of suspension components (i.e. ball joints, pitman arms, etc.).

Toronados do not have two variants, only the one. And that's THOMPSON, not "Tecumseh". Thompson was the "T" in TRW. He was the auto parts and manufacturing guy. Ramo and Woolridge were the space and satellite guys.

DOH!

I had to deal with the 2 types of steering when I had my 64 98. I actually double checked the spelling on Tecumseh. I thought, "it's a city in MI, I'm good." Should have looked at old posts on our site.
