Looking for Gear Box for Power Seat 1966 Toro

Well, the motor turns the gear box and it runs the seat up and down but not back and forth. After disassembling everything the only thing I can think is that the gear box is junk. It looks good inside but I don't think it's functioning properly. Does anybody have one or any tips, tricks, or solutions?

Have you tested the solenoids to see if they work? If I 'member right, the wires to them are pretty thin & could be easily broken? With power applied one way they cause the gear to move out or in & in the opposite direction with power & ground reversed.

If you really do need to replace the gear box I think I've got one. But it sounds like it might be worth checking the solenoids as oldspackrat suggests.

and make sure the grease is nice and greasy, not hard like cheese left out a week. The other usual cause of failure.

Thanks for the suggestions. The grease is proper. The wiring is mint. Just have to check if it works. Going to try it with a fully charged battery this time. Last time the battery was not at full strength. It WOULD move the seat up and down. Just not back and forth. These units are like 300 bucks. Whoa!

Were you able to make yours work? Not sure where you were pricing the replacement gear box, but I've sold the whole power seat assembly for much less than $300

Well, replaced the gear box. It motors the seat great except for the up/down on the back. My buddy and I think I have to clean the switch. The interior is done for all intents and purposes. I wished I would have contacted you before paying 320 for a new box!
