Question Hurst Toronado?

I was looking at craigslist and there's a Hurst? Toronado for sale. I searched and found no mention of them. The guy isn't sure what it is for sure, pretty nice car anyway. It seems the cars name is always misspelled, Tornado on this one.

I think he is spewing "Sales Talk". I think DONK means a car with huge wheels and shiny chrome and designer interior.

Thanks, I thought it may be something like that.

It's an excellent deal for a great car.

I looked at the car and he is asking a low price for it. Nice color.

It's a pretty car, but I have a hard time when a seller makes some BS claim in an ad that isn't substantiated (grammar and punctuation optional):

"...from What a Collector told me these were Built in the Hurst Factory right alongside and where its little sister the Hurst 442..."

Oh, of course, "a Collector". Well, it must be true then...

Which is always followed by the disclaimer:

"P.S

Look I have no clue as to the Hurst etc its what im told..."

Ding Ding Ding (the BS meter is pegging).

My buddy and I discussed this subject on Tuesday. "what I was told" or "according to what I heard" set off alarm bells when I hear them. Or vague phrases like "One of only three", I think to myself they mean 1 of 3 in THEIR LOCAL CLUB or some crap like that. They didn't claim anything like "in the world" or "produced that year". Gotta watch those liars...

Hurst Factory
Yeah, didn't you know there was once a Hurst factory in Michigan... or was it Ohio, or maybe even Missouri?

Well, actually...

OK, technically this is the Demmer facility in Michigan, where the 68s and 69s were assembled. It certainly was NOT used by 1973, however.

I wonder, by definition doesn't a Hurst car have a Hurst shifter? Did Hurst make a column shifter? Reminds me of this car (also a column shifted auto):

This picture was taken at a concourse show in Cincinnati, OH. This '67 442 was one of four made by the dealer to race competitively with other factory race cars. Since the 442 was a factory production the modifications were allowed on these cars. The mods are: W-30 option, and Hurst options which Hurst installed include a '68 Toronado 455 with automatic and 4:11 posi rearend. After the government caught this it was stopped. I have another Hurst-equipped '67 which belongs to my uncle that was bought in '71. My car has only 23K actual miles. Will send pictures of seven other '67 442s that belong to my family. This car has won many first and second place olds trophies. Hope you enjoy this piece of history.

In 1990 I took one of my former GTO's to the GTO and Buick Regal Reunion (Grand Nationals and GNX's) at the Naval Air Development Center in Warminster PA. The site of the demolished Hurst factory was right next door, Dennis Kirban put on the show and he is a big Hurst guy along with GTO's and GN's. I talked at length with Bob Held who was the art director for Hurst, designed the "H" logo and everything else they had. If you look at pics on brochures from the '60's his '58 T-Bird, white with blue top and accents, is parked by the building half the time. He was selling Hurst brochures, photos, stickers and vintage Hurst caps out of the trunk of that car at the show. He had more than a few stories about the company and couldn't say enough good things about Linda Vaughan, cool guy.
I have a Dual-Gate brochure and instructions Mr. Held sent me later (autographed it to me too), has a pic of a Toro in a line up on front.

Legend is that when they tore down the building they bulldozed all the shifters and parts along with Hurst wheels into a hole for fill at the end of the runway and buried them.

Dang, Aliens beat me to this. There is absolutely no documentation that this '67 is a Hurst car. By the owner, *or* Hurst. And the real killer is that is it is a column shift auto at a time when the dual gate was in existance. Like *that's* easy to believe!

Here's a picture of my 59 Hurst Olds 98. I know it's a Hurst because it's Gold and White.

Technically the 68-69 cars carry a 442 VIN. (344.....). Later H/Os do not.

You are the first person I've run across that considers any Barrett Jackson offering to be proof of anything.

Additionally, putting Hurst equipment on an Oldsmobile does not make it a Hurst Olds. Again, nothing personal. Just letting the facts speak for themselves.
