Hi: I am in the process of extracting the upper ball joint on a Toro 67 so I can take away the knuckle and then the drive shaft, all steps necessary, according to the CSM, for replacing my left hand side CV Boot. It should be be pretty stratight forward acording to the CSM also, pry and tap with a brass drift and so be it!, far for that I am stuck and the ball joint refuse to be extracted, I have used a fork with a big hammer to no avail, any tip, guidance or else will be greatly appreciated. Best Regards. Raul.
If you have an acetylene torch you can always try to heat up the control arm (even a propane torch might help). Don't get it too hot or the control arm may warp.
Hi Jesse: Thanks for the tip, I finally managed to pull it out by using a generic extractor that works like a scissor (see photo) which was perfect for the job, unfortunately the quality of the tool was not enough for the job (the adjusting screw began to compress at its tip) but then I assisted with a heat gun over the knuckle and ... CLANK, it came out!!!!
t!!. Now lets see how the bottom ball joint will behave!
Just for closure I managed to extract the lower ball joint!, as expected it was harder than the upper but after adapting and reinforcing with the help of a workshop another puller it wnet flawlessly. So happy to clear everything so I can pull the left dirve axle out except .... to be continued. Thanks as always. Best.
