Update on this.

USA did get back to me after a couple of days. He indicated the same two D-shaped grommets that we've been talking about, and I replied that those wouldn't work. We need a straight-through grommet. I asked about the straight-through grommet in their catalog, S21.400L. He said that that one is out of stock at their warehouse and that it's GM part number 14091870. He suggested I google "GM 14091870" to see an image of it. I didn't find an image of it as easily as he said I would, but what also came back in the search results is that Dorman part number 42052 is a replacement, and I did find a photo of that, which is below.

Here's the Dorman page showing the grommet, and dimensions are included. Note that the ID is 0.728 inches, which is just what we need as the vent pipe is about 3/4" in outside diameter.

https://www.dormanproducts.com/p-26044-42052.aspx

If you wade through Dorman's "detailed applications" list further down the page (you have to get to page 16 to find the mid-late '70s), 1977 or 1978 Oldsmobile doesn't turn up, but Amazon has this for $6.49 with free shipping (I am an Amazon Prime member), so it's worth the try.

I'll post an update here once the part is received, which should be in two days, and I see if it works or not.

The grommet has been received and installed, and I would call it a qualified success.

The bad news is that the vent pipe doesn't fully insert into the grommet. But it goes in far enough to stay there, and it really doesn't look any worse than in any of the other photos of this connection I've been able to find.

The good news is that it fits perfectly into the round opening on the side of the air cleaner. It's as though it was meant to go there.

So while I think the perfect grommet here would be a little longer so the pipe can be fully inserted, until and unless I find one of those, this will do just fine.

Here's a couple of photos. I need to paint that vent pipe!

GM Parts Direct has it for $2.34, which sounds great until you get to the shipping cost, which is $15.58. So it's really an $18 part, not a $2 part. The $6 with free shipping at Amazon looks pretty good in that context.

Hi All
I am now back online after my move. Still not fully unpacked but working on it.
Jaunty so glad to see you tracked down a suitable grommet. Not a perfect fit but certainly looks like it will do the job.
Was wondering if someone like OPGI might have something from one of the models they support like Cadillac that would do the job.
Must check out their web site to see.
