‘67 Cowl - screen or not?

I’m doing some long needed cleaning of the cowl and the fender cavities, and I’m realizing there is no screen under the cowl vent openings, as I believe there should be. Am I right? If there was even the most modest of screens, most of this junk wouldn’t be jammed deep into these crevasses!

Yes one should be there, possibly they are reproduced.

They are. I've seen them recently and if I can remember where, I'll post a link.

You definitely need one.

Thank you! It may not be terribly original, but I'll use some 1/8" galvanized hardware cloth for the replacement piece unless there really is a supplier out there.

Well, if you Google "'68-72 GM A-body cowl screen" you get quite a selection. Thing is, the mesh in most of them appears to be coarser than what I recall as factory. But take a look, it'll give you some ideas.

Bought some 12”x24” 8-mesh stainless screen from Amazon, painfully cut it into the correct shape and painted it, then shot the whole cowl and grille with a rattle can match. I’ll buff it out in a couple weeks when it’s fully cured, but for now, the cowl is properly protected from falling leaves and crawling mice.

Well done. It actually looks more correct than the stuff I saw online. Guessing it was a lot more work, though.

That cowl cover doesn't look stock, the vent area on mine almost goes from one side to the other. And your right wiper shaft is outboard?

Not my car, pulled off the net.

That is because you guys are in the Toronado section (sub-forum). The car in question is a 67 Toronado not a 67 cutlass.
