1989 Trofeo Struts, shocks, and springs

Heyyo y’all! I recently purchased an ‘89 Toronado Trofeo with 104k miles on her and the front struts are blown and the rear shocks are starting to go. Are there any struts/shocks that are cross-compatible with the Toronado? I’m having a hell of time trying to find anything suspension related for this car.

You can either take them to a local hydraulic repair shop, or you can search for the GM interchange numbers.

Front: 801800

Rear: 801801

I got a few hits searching with those numbers. If you're able to get new struts I suggest you keep the old ones in case you can't find them again in 15 years.

I too own a very nice 1988 Toronado base car. Parts other than basic drivetrain parts are extremely difficult to find for these cars. Hopefully your exhaust is in good or very good shape. Pipes do not exist for these cars. Especially a Trofeo.

The eldorado suspension should cross over. They are all common. Try to stay away from self leveling rear struts.

x2

I installed aftermarket (Monroe) leveling rear struts in my 96 98, they have since failed again. Either that or the leveling pneumatic pump went bad. Next time I disassemble the rear suspension I will use non-leveling struts.

Thanks, it hasn't been driven much since the paint work was done, due to a blown brake line and the need for the front exhaust pipe...

The front struts are available. They are $264 each. Haven't found a rear replacement.

Thanks for posting the link. Since that eBay vendor only has 1 available, I'd be hesitant to have one good and one bad rear strut. I stand by my suggestion above that folks should inquire with local hydraulic shops to have the OE struts rebuilt.

what years of toronado has suspension compatibility? I found struts for the ‘91s but they seem to be longer than the ‘89s. Would they still work?
