I'm working on a '66 425 to put in my '66 442 which I bought with an empty engine compartment. Originality isn't real important to me. It's an air conditioned car. I have two sets of '68-up accessories and brackets but no '65-'67 setups. Can I use the later setup on my 425 or is there a problem? Can the later setups be adapted?
The blocks are dimensionally identical with any other BBO, so that is not an issue. The low-mount PS pump can be a clearance issue, but others have made it work in the 64-67 chassis. The early chassis is narrower than the 68-72 versions. And as always, the brackets, pulleys, and water pump all need to match or you'll have belt alignment issues.
I thought there was some problem with the balancer not fitting both earlier and later engines and the bottom pulley having a different attachment pattern to the balancer

Nope. Both the pulley bolt pattern and the offset of the pulley mounting surface on the balancer are the same for all 1964-1990 motors.
I used the 68 and up brackets, PS pump etc. Like Joe mentioned it's a little tight in a 64 but all worked out. Installed Old Air Products A/C. Also used a I believe a 68 on up Corvette power brake booster, it provides the clearance if you need to remove the valve cover for service.
