Choke Stat Cover made of?
What is the proper term for the material that the black choke stat cover made for Oldsmobile/Rochester(example- in 1968) where made of?
I know generic replacements seem to be a plastic but the original is not the same material.
Also, is there a company that reproduces the classic ones with the original material?

I think the proper terminology is Bakelite, a black phenolic plastic or something like that. It was an older, earlier type of plastic that I think is not used anymore because modern plastics are superior to it.

That is correct. Phenolic is actually a resin-impregnated fiber material.
Phenolic Plastics or micarta plastics are a laminated plastic created by the impregnation of layers of a substrate with a resin then formed utilizing heat and pressure. The resins are generally Phenolic, silicone, melamine or epoxies while the substrate materials range from paper and cotton to glass.

Bakelite - that's it.... thank you for the information. reminds me of the plastic plunger on our (very) old toaster that broke off in little fragments at a time - and hoping you weren't the one who finally broke the last remaining piece....
