Carburetor Heat Shield. What Kind?

Carburetor Heat Shield. What Kind?
I have a 1966 Toronado that has a vapor lock problem after it sits for 30 minutes. It appears that the float valve is getting hot and sticking shut.
Have any of you installed heat shields on your carbs to prevent vapor lock? What design works best? One protrudes wide from the base of the carb. The other is more or less the shape of the gasket. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Has the carb been rebuilt recently? I believe the original Toronado carbs had a needle seat issue. Also todays gas with ethanol may be a factor. I'd contact Everyday Performance or Cliff Ruggles and ask if the Toronado carbs require a heat shield or have hard hot starting issues. Viton tipped needles do not seem effected by ethanol fuel.

X2. If it hasn’t been rebuilt lately I would suggest going through it while installing new ethanol resistant needle & accel pump. It could also be sediment dragged up from the tank clogging the needle & seat if it has had recent attention. Theses cars had no big problems as a general rule.

It would seem like the wider one would be more effective. I don't know what part of the world you live in, but if you have mild winters you might consider limiting the heat riser.
