Maybe dumb question but I have to ask...

I have my DD 71 Cutlass S - has drums on front - I can't afford to change to discs - as a matter of fact I just got done painting a set of 14x6 SS3's and bought new tires, center caps, trim rings for them - taking my American Racing rims off the car tomorrow - I always preferred the SS3's myself on a Cutlass. So I have a lot invested in the 14" rims at this point.

OK back to my question - Is there any way to lower the front end with drum brakes? I know the drum spindles can be modified to become disc ones by shaving off a portion of the metal. Could you build up a 2" lowered disc brake spindle and use it with drums? (I have a set someone gave me) Does anyone make a lowering kit for drum brakes (I can't find one)? I know I can put shorter springs, but have heard and read bad things about that versus swapping the spindles out - any opinions on this?

You can put a bigger motor in, thats usually good for an inch and some extra fun. Or, you can shorter springs, cut the old ones down a bit, ... I don't know of a kit.

Either just cut the springs or order some lowering springs. Then just have an alignment done. While your there, the might as wells should kick in such as ball joints etc.

14" SSII/SSIII wheels were factory installed on disc brake cars. They clear FACTORY discs just fine. No guarantee on aftermarket kits, however.

Oh I know they came with discs under the 14x6's - I just can't afford to buy a complete changeover right now - and most aftermarket kits are for 15" or above wheels - just looking for a way to lower the front an inch or two without breaking my very empty piggy bank.

Change the springs or have yours cut down. If you have an alignment done afterwards you will not have any issues.

Shorter tires? 205/70/14 is an inch less in diameter than a 225/70/14
