Im sorry but i need to ask about some different options on the 1972 cutlass.
Im currently in the process of buying a 1972 cutlass. There are some differences between the 2 im looking at,but i cant tell the difference. Both of the cutlass's are "442s" one say w-30 on the side but has a 350 in it. the other has a 455 in it.

What is a W-25/30 and should it be on the 442 with the 455 in it?

Please help

Ive been in love with cutlass's since i was a kid but ive never owned one, and im not gonna waste my money on buy a new car cause they are made like crap so this is why i dont that much about the different options on cutlass,

Please Help

Reproduction 442 and W-30 emblems are readily available. There are probably more clones on the road today than originals. The good news is that in the 1972 model year, the engine code was part of the VIN. The fifth character of the VIN is the engine code. An "X" designates a real W-30 (with high output 455) - any other letter means the car is a fake. "U" indicates a 455 automatic trans and "V" indicates a 455 manual trans. Any other letter indicates that the original engine was a 350.

Proving the car is a real 442 is a problem unless the car has an "X" engine code. Since the 442 was only an appearance option starting with the 1972 model year, without the build sheet it's very difficult to prove the car is a 442. The 442-unique parts in 72 were the grilles, emblems, and suspension parts. All of those are easily bolted to any Cutlass.

Don't apologize! You asked good questions, and this is the place to do it.
