Differential Bushings

Hi All- replacing the bushings above the differential on my 67 442 and looking for any tips on reinstalling. The typical C-clap type press with fittings doesn’t fit due to the housing contours so I cut the old ones out, now I’m wondering the best way to get new ones in? Thanks!

I used a piece of pipe and a hammer on rubber stock types and a piece of wood and a hammer on poly with the inserts removed.

Put the bushings in a freezer for a few days then you should be able to install them with a dead blow hammer

I use an air chisel with the edge ground flat and use that against the bushing lip to drive them in. I clean the bushing bores and put some light lubricant on the surface to reduce friction while installing them.

Thanks all! I had hoped freezing and lube would get me there but didn’t want to get stuck half way. Glad to hear that should work

One thing to mention is don’t hammer on the rubber part as that absorbs the energy. You need to contact the metal part of the shell.
