Upper control arm bushings: source needed. '72 Cutlass

I need a good source for these bushings, or the kit. Cannot be Rock Auto. The shop that is going to replace these needs a good source. They are checking thier normal sources, but no luck. They will not use Rock Auto due to low quality parts in name brand boxes that they have encountered in the past. I gave them my Fusick's catalog for a source, but they will not contact them until tomorrow 9/23. I would like to have other sources if possible.

How about your local auto parts store? Most carry Moog, TRW, or McQuay-Norris.

NAPA is a good source.

I cannot bring my own parts to use, liability concerns. I was surprised as I told them NAPA has them, but they didn't seem to want to use them. I may look for another suspension shop. These guys have been around for decades, and I have used them since the mid 70's. I don't know what gives.

These are the same bushings used on every 66-72 A-body. They aren't difficult to find. Even Moog is imported now.

If they won't install parts you supply, why are you looking? Sounds like their (self inflicted) problems. Let them use their parts, and make them stand behind their decision.

Why are the bushings for only 66-72? I thought front suspension for 64 thru 72 was the same.

The 1964 cars use metal screw-in bushings. The 1965 cars could go either way. The complete 66-72 upper control arm swaps in, but the bushings themselves are different on the early cars.

I talked to them today to supply them with the Moog kit # that Norm provided, they said that they had it. They have to check availability. These parts are as common as dirt, I fail to see why there is an issue with procuring them. Anymore delays and I'll go elsewhere. If my back weren't screwed up, I'd do it myself. Thanks for the help guys.

Strange vibes from shop, are you sure they can be trusted to see this simple job through? Those bushings are as common from any parts store or chain as cig butts on the ground near a loading dock.

Dan - Just a guess. Maybe that shop doesn't want to be involved w/ the wheel alignment after they replace the bushings? Some alignment shops dread the thought of aligning these cars. While the process is rather simple & not off-the-rails, maybe they don't want to "get involved"? Many shops don't have the specs & if you provide the specs they sometimes give you the deer in the headlights &/or claim liability. Pretty sure you know the routine. I feel for ya.

This is the reason why you should never go to franchised repair shops, not saying this is what the op did, just in general. I search out medium duty truck shops for alignments and/or use peer recommendations.

Suspensions/frame straightening/alignments is what they do. They're an independent shop that has been around for 60 plus years, but I'm begining to think that they don't want to do it. If I don't hear back by tomorrow, I'll go elsewhere.

Called them a bit ago, and "he's not feeling well, we'll get back to you." Bye, bye, kiss my a$$. I have an appointment with another local long standing shop, for a Monday drop off so they will have it Tuesday to give me an estimate.

Sounds like the repair shop guy is suffering from “bottle flu.” Best you’re getting the car and the situation out of that shop.
