Oval and round front control arm bushings question.

My son has a 1968 Cutlass, and we want to order a SUPER front end rebuild kit....which includes everything needed. I noticed there are 2 kits...one with round control arm bushings and one with oval. This must be the lower control arms, rear bushing??? I checked his car and it is round, they are all round. Did 68's have ovals also? Also, what is a good kit, PST, Moog...poly, polygraphite, or stock rubber?

My 71 had ovals. Not sure when they changed, but I know they had either or. That's why it's good to check. As far as the kit, it's all personal preferance. Moog is probably the best, but if you want a more firmer ride and better handling then go with poly. I changed my control arm with tubular ones and they came with poly bushings.

My '68 has rounds & I have not seen '68 with ovals (but I've only looked at a few).

AFAIK, the rounds are a little firmer due to less rubber and the ovals were introduced across the A-body platform in '69 or '70 to provide a smother ride.

I just did Moog standard replacements as I am going more for originality than performance.

Maybe one of our resident dismantlers will chime in....

I have read some bad reviews about the kits that have parts of questionable quality that were made overseas. I have always just bought all Moog parts from either the local auto parts store or Rock Auto. Many times you can piece it together for the same or less than the kits and have better quality parts.

My 70 Cutlass has ovals. Just think twice about the poly graphite. It makes the car runs a lot harder. I did poly graphite to the front and rear lower and upper control arms. Over here in NYC, there's a lot of pot holes in the street and my car feels like its riding on stone wheels. I feel like changing it back to rubber.

I just finished replacing the bushings on my 68. They are all round, no ovals. I got them from Rock Auto at a fraction of the cost they would have cost me at Oreilly's. They are Moog. I would also like to give you a little bit advise when you get ready to put them back in is to use a piece of PVC in the arms to keep them from collapsing.
