Front End noise

My 70-442 has a wierd noise in the driver front. When i put my foot on the brake and put the car in drive or reverse.Theres a noise in the drivers front that sounds like (someone taking a hammer and hitting a piece of plate metal.)If i put my foot on the brake and push on the gas pedal. It will make the noise. The ball joints seem fairly new....Could it be brake caliper, control arm bushings??Anyone have any input? Thanks

It could be any of those you mentioned. Raise the front end, remove the tire/wheel, examine each item. Validate, don't just imply the ball joints seem fairly new, they holding and look good? If new, check the nuts/bolts are secure, check torque values on the LCAs especially - are they correct, do the bushings appear OK?

When you do this, is the car moving? Or is it sitting completely still? If the car is not moving, it is not any of the items you mentioned.

Kenneth - I'll take exception. Recall when I changed out my entire suspension? Mine made exact same noise passenger side - car not moving. Foot firmly on brake pedal, shift into reverse and clunk - like metal-to-metal. Was driving like that ~1 year. Raised the front end, had a look-see. Brand new Moog ball joints I installed - both nuts and bolts loose. Both RH & LH front LCAs were torqued to ~50 lbs-ft. Tightened ball joint nuts/bolts, torqued LCAs to 80 lb-ft. No noise any longer.

Ah, I was interpreting that as a continuous hammering sound, and not a single sound.

If you don’t find any issues with the front end. It could be a loose or broken mount.
