64 cutlass poloy bushings

Looking fo poloy or delrin bushings for the differential control arms. I have poloy for the diff ears. Per Joes advise, I am going to run oem type in the front of the lowers. I can not find anything but oem type for the rest of the bushings Best I can tell all the bushings are the same except the diff ears, Is that correct?

You want the rubber bushing at the forward end of the UPPER control arm, not the lower.
The rear bushings are the same for 1964-1977 Cutlii. Moog K5161 or equivalent. Any poly bushing that fits a 68-72 A-body also fits the 64-67 cars. The fact that catalogs don't list them is just another case of vendors getting Olds applications wrong.

All eight rear bushings are exactly the same part number.

I recently ordered a bunch of suspension parts from UMI and they asked if I had a 64 or 65 axle. They told me the upper mounts on the axle were different in 64. I dont recall if he said a different size or just different. Of course everything is delayed so i dont have any parts yet to look at

The 64 and 64 housing part numbers are the same, so the hole in the lug for the upper bushing is the same.

When I get parts in I’ll check the shipping list and check them out Maybe see if I can figure out what they were talking about

Well I knocked out the upper diff bushings and then I noticed this warning from UMI about my bushings...I measured the hole that is in the differential and it is about 1.34" (cheap calipers though)
I have ordered a set of bushings k5161 that claim they are 1.38" I dont know how anyone cold remove the old bushings without damaging the metal shell, unless you have a press type tool..

anyway i noticed the similiar note on year one
https://www.yearone.com/Product/1964-72-cutlass-442/rh8
"" Aftermarket rubber rear control arm bushings with bare metal sleeves. Sold individually or in sets of six or eight. 1964 models use 6 of these bushings (and 2 bushings of another style which press into the rear-axle housing and are not currently available), while all 1965-1972 models use 8 of these bushings.""

What is the reasoning with using the rubber bushing in the front of the upper control arm?

To save the shell, I drill holes close to shells in the rubber and then knock it out like a plug. Then you can just clean the remaining rubber from the shells.

That makes sense now.....I just knocked them out. I was preppared for a fight but compared to other newer cars they came out really easily. Easily but not undamaged. the new ones should be here in a day or two. Ill try drilling them to use with the poly inserts. I rememebered that Joe had said to use rubber somewhere on the rear, and i was hoping that he reccommended using the rubber for the diff connection, so i could just install these new rubber ones as is...

You don't remove the bushings from the control arms. Drill in place, remove rubber insert and clean, then slip in the poly insert bushings. You can use the rubber all around if you want they are pretty inexpensive.

I follow. So I’ve got new control arms already loaded with poly bushings. The ones I knocked out are in the ears on the differential. Which I was supposed to save and I didn’t realize it

Did you ever resolve this? I’m in the same boat. Thank you.

In just went to the parts store and grabbed k5161 bushings and I can confirm that they are not the right size for the ears on the 64 housing. Those bushings are correct for the other locations of the upper and lower control arms

the k5161 claims its 1.38 diameter and it is actually much larger at 1.85
