? for 324 Guru's Wheres the mechanical adv

Where is the mechanical advance on the 324 distributors for my 1955 88?

I pulled the distributor cap to check the rotor and see what kind of shape the points were in, and also to see how the mechanical advance looked and I got a suprise. No weights no springs no chevy bushings to fall out, just a rotor, condensor and points???

Can someone tell me more about this distributor and how it works etc?

Is there mechanical advance? what about those little springs that bring in the advance at a certain time depending on RPM.

Just trying to get aquainted with Oldsmobile world of the 50's. I just realized, this is my 3rd oldsmobile

#1 1988 Olsmobile Calais with Quad 4 and FE3 suspension Nice car
#2 1995 Aurora 4.0 V8 it was a runner but had a lot of electrical issues
#3 1955 Olds 88 2 door Hardtop

I think I recall either Norm or Joe talking about the weights and springs being BELOW the baseplate. But, I might be mistaken, better wait for one of them to chime in.

Below the breaker plate.

This ('54) is typical of '35-'55. '56-'90 are the configuration you were expecting.

A Factory service manual is a great investment.

Service manual

Think that is going to be my first piece of literature on the car.

I will see if I can't get that ordered this week. Amazing how different these cars are.

thanks for the nice diagram
