Oldsmobile intakes

I was looking to get a 2 by 4 intake on my olds 350 but I was doing some measuring,,,, does anyone know if a 2 by 4 will clear the distributor? I know done intakes have the carbs mounted sideways but I don't think they do with the Offy one.

I think as long as it's a squarebore 4150 style mounting flange you can mount the carb sideways if you are using holleys . I think the edelbrock carb would be t the easiest to use. Sice you can mount them facing forward and they don't take up as much space as a holley.

The Offy dual quad intakes for the SBO use their weird "dual plane" design where the left side of the carb feeds the LH cylinders and the right side of the carb feeds the RH cylinders. If you mount the carbs sideways, the primaries only feed one side of the motor and the secondaries only feed the other side. Stick with the E-brock carbs, or plan on machining the dividers out of the manifold.

Alright I understand what you mean. Thanks for your knowledge. I know Holley makes small 450 carbs but if it is easier to use E Brock then I will use them. But I'm sure they make a small 400 or 450 carb right?

I attached a picture of what the intake looks like and it had carb adapters on it now.

So you can see the divider in this intake (and in the carb adapters). You cannot use sideways carbs without machine work.

I guess you COULD mount the carbs sideways if you put one to the right and one to the left, but then you would need simultaneous linkage instead of progressive. Not the best solution for a 350. Again, I'd suggest the E-brock carbs and progressive linkage.

So with the Edelbrock carbs do they run in line like a traditional carburetor? and I would use progressive linkage. Whatever's easiest to achieve I just didn't know with the traditional set up would it clear the distributor.

Do you have any E Brock carbs that I could buy from you to fit well on here?

AFB's or the new Street Demon carbs would probably work. I personally would run a 1 or 2" phenolic spacer, especially with Edelbrock carbs. Maybe I should try one with dual Street Demons, if I ever get the 424 done.
