With the new heads on I've found a big oversight, while the new heads had been resurfaced, I didn't do the same for the exhaust manifolds. I remembered some gaskets I didn't use before and put them on thinking that would be a quick way to stop the exhaust leaks. It didn't but I'm thinking maybe the issue is they aren't torqued down enough. Because of limited space I've only been able to get a flare wrench on it which doesn't provide much leverage. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to get more torque to get these to seal properly? Thank you.

 

They are lightly torqued in the proper sequence to 20 - 25 foot pounds.

Another option is to take them to a machine shop and have the surfaces machined.

These have proven to be quite handy. Extra length for stickin the beans to it.

 

I use a large 16" file to touch up the manifolds, then install the gaskets(optional but recommended).
Make sure you are on the entire port surfaces with the file. You can run the file along the heads to knock down high spots. The trick is in the file technique. A little at a time, they don't need to be perfect. If they are way ou,t consider having them surfaced.
Sequentially creep up on the final torque(most important if the gasket is used.
Put a dab of copper antiseize on the threads and the shoulders. Same for the head pipe fasteners.
Back off 10% on the torque spec if antiseize is used.
Recheck the torque after a few heat cycles.
