So i tore down my 69 olds 350 and before stripping the block and hot tanking it i saw the timing oiler was pluged and had been for awile no oil to the timing gears and front of the cam! the cam thrust made the cam eat the block about .030 I know about the big block chev's doing this and shimming to corect the issue. can some one chime in and give suggestions?

On the motor in my F85 I had the block machined to accept a torrington bearing that goes between the cam and the block. Don't remember how much was removed but I do know some material was also removed from the cam sproket on the timing chain also. Something to look into. JKaz

Moved to "small block" forum to get more exposure, hopefully...

I had a brass spacer made for that purpose once. I cut the cam .030 and the spacer is .060" (stronger). I think some of the vendors sell them, or go to a machine shop with the cam for the id-od dimensions they need.

Same as Jeff, I have a torrington bearing machined into the block.
