Power steering leak 77 cutlass 350
Hey all, had a weird thing happen. I backed my 77 cutlass out of the drive to head to work yesterday morning and noticed a puddle of what looked like oil on the driveway. Not tons but maybe a few ounces. Turns out it is power steering fluid. I got all up under in on top and I cant see really where it is coming from. Accept i know its inside where the pulley wheel is on the front by the fan. Looks like a bolt that runs in through the power steering pump maybe? Anyways with it not being too bad of a leak I added some power steering stop leak. I got the BARS concentrated kind. I added the whole thing. Says it treats up to 3 quarts and I dont think my power steering holds that much so i hope I didnt screw up. Anyways what do you guys think about the leak and the area it seems to be leaking? common on the 77 ? I did just do shorty headers but I dont think they are effecting this. Thanks
I don't like to use any stop leak stuff on my cars, but that's just me. If it stopped the leak and you don't hear any noises coming from the pump then it sounds like your OK for a bit.
Now, is the leak in that area common on a 77? Well on a 40 year old car I would say when it goes its time.
The short headers won't affect the P/S pump.
Any pics of your header install?
Eric

I'll grab pics of the headers in morning for ya. I know the noise when turning went away when I put the anti leak bars stuff in there. its perplexing that its behind the pulley wheel where its leaking. any way to tighten the wheel somehow? I guess i just dont understand the leak.
