330 crank breather canister

I am working through my 65 Vista and trying to put everything back on the engine as it should be, as opposed to previous owners bodges. Mine has the early closed breather system without a PCV valve. What I want to know is whats inside the breather cap on the passenger side rocker. I have reinstated the small vac pipe to the base of the carb but not sure if the round disc inside is supposed to be loose and move around. Anyone help on this?

Yes the small disk is supposed to move. The theory being when the engine creates pressure, the disk allows the pressure to be evacuated to outside air. If the engine creats a vacuum, the disk seals off the opening to prevent drawing in outside contaminants.
