After seeing the retarded price dual snorkel air cleaners are going for, I am building my own. The $160 the guy on ROP is asking for a 85 442 air cleaner is fair but someone who has a 442 missing one should buy it. I was going to buy a bolt on Ford scoop but still $100 shipped. My 260's air cleaner I am using the open top and will have a scoop feeding it. For some reason it hit the the non A/C alt bracket. It is the nice big wide snorkel so it will boost air flow a lot. I carefully removed it with a chisel, should be able to drill and install with 4 very small bolts and nuts. The only problem is the other snorkel is smaller. Makes sense, obviously a dual jet on a mighty, tiny port 260 needs more air than a big port early 307 with a Quadrajet, way think that one out GM engineers. I also plan on painting dryer venting flat black to feed from the fenders and use the big Rocket 350 silver pie plate decal. I also have the Accel cleanable foam air filter for it, another reason to use it. I will post pics tomorrow of the finished product minus the decal.

 

I made one years ago. Fun project. I didn't try to copy a correct one or get too fancy.

Anyways, I believe I used a two barrel snorkel and just cut it down to accept some kind of hose I had at the time.
Fresh paint and a couple of new decals. Looks good. Still using it, just no hose on it now.

 

I made one but never welded it. Ditched the project although i could still benefit from it.

 

I still have the paper templates i think. In these pics they still needed to be trimmed down to 3 in. If i where to give you helpful advice is. Make a sheet metal band for the insert and buy oval exhaust tubing for the ducts. I made my own ducts but the oval tubing is cheap and faster and cleaner. I bought some scrap oval tubing from a local shop for 20 bucks. I may revive my project because i still have the snorkle tubes and velocity stacks for the high beams collecting dust .

 

Just curious, where did you get the ducting hose? My plan is function and not look too bad. I am going to mount it on the 350 make sure it clears the alt bracket and filler tube but still look balanced.

 

The ducts are from the parts place for the w31. And the air bells for the high beams I got from spectre

 

I used aluminum dry vent hose.I used the stove pipe flanged tube thru the head lights. To a ram air box.Three inch tubes. I still have the car where i can use this system but at the present i am not.I used the high beam area for the vents. Cut off the end of the high beam bracket so i could attach the stove pipe flange with sheet metal screws.I then used hi/low beam bulb in the low beam area. When i attached the vent hose to the flanged stove tube i drilled a hole thru the pipe used a nail to connect the dryer tube to it. I then wrapped with aluminum tape to seal it. I did the other end at air cleaner the same way. The nail i ideal was for quick removal. I called my system Robbie the robot because of the aluminum ducts.LOL

Thanks, I will probably use dryer vent tubing and elbow into the fender. I got the snorkel on, looks good, cut the hole perfect. I noticed there is a deflector I need to cut out as well behind the original snorkel. I am surprised my 307 performed as well as it did this set up, good grief. Pics in a couple of hours.

I like the way this one looks. Not sure if oval is better than round or if it even makes a difference. Thanks for posting it copper.

I twisted and bent out that deflector inside. It wiped off the paint, too cold right now, even with heaters on, rippling as you can see.

I like it, looks factory. I don't know what Olds was thinking on this 81 307 or maybe this one is original off my 88 CSC, now that I think about it, pretty sure it was. It was near indentical to air cleaner off my 81 307, air in was obviously not the first priority.
