Mystery Dual Snorkel Air Cleaner

Hi All,

I bought this air cleaner some years back at a swap meet believing it was correct for a '69 W-30, but after purchasing ram air hoses and trying to fit them to it I realized the snorkels are too large. They're exactly six inches wide at the widest points and 1&7/8" tall. It otherwise looks very similar to the reproduction piece I bought from The Parts Place. Anyone have any idea what this is from? Thanks!

-Jon

Definitely not. The 71-72 NH unit had tapered snorkels and they were two different lengths. I posted a pic of one in the thread you referenced.

That lid looks Chevrolet to me. My guess is 70-72 Z28/LT1 or possibly Corvette. Look at the carb opening and you'll see it's not notched for a QuadraJet, so that tells me it's for a Holley-equipped engine, which those Chevy engines were.

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm pretty sure it's not a Camaro or Corvette piece as they had smaller snorkels without the flaps. I don't have the repro piece here to compare but I recall the lids being identical. I never noticed the lack of a Quadrajet notch. Does anyone know where to find a part number or date code on something like this? It's definitely for sale but I don't want to turn this thread into an ad. Thanks!

It looks like a early 80's 5.0 HO air cleaner for a Z28 to me.

The chrome top definitely looks like an Olds, though it may not be original to the base. It's pre-HEI, because there's no "dent" for the large distributor at the back. It sure looks like a 1969 unit. Are you sure your repro hoses are correct?

I got my dual snorkel off of E-bay about a year ago and never knew what it came off of. It had an original "Keep it GM" sticker on it, but it has two evenly sized snorkels. Also apparently came with the "original" chrome top. Any ideas?

That one's a Pontiac. Either 68-70 GTO or Trans Am.

If the other one is a real Olds OAI the hoses not fitting makes sense since I've heard the snorkels are slightly smaller on the repros so the hoses fit better. So it stands to reason the hoses would be pretty tight on a original. I don't think the Olds OAI
are 6" widethough I thought they were more like 5 7/8". They usually have the corners smashed in to make the hoses easier to install too. Does it have the vertical support piece at the end of the snorkels?

The hoses are the cloth (supposedly) original type, and fit the repro air cleaner and scoops I have, albeit quite snugly. The repro hose to air cleaner clamps I have are nowhere near big enough to fit these snorkels. I looked at the pics of an original air cleaner in this thread:
https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...-w-30-oai.html, and those snorkels are five inches across. The passenger side snorkel has a "forward Z" support but there is none in the driver side snorkel. It's also missing the vacuum hose clips on the bottom side. In fact, it doesn't look like they were ever there. This thing does look to have been repainted at some point as it's fairly glossy and there is some sort of red metallic in the paint. The snorkels are also close to an inch shorter than those in the pics of the original. I suppose someone could modify this one to work, but I'm still curious as to its real origins. Thanks all!
