I was about to install the power steering pump today, but immediately I knew something was wrong with the fit. I have the right brackets and all, but I'm thinking this is the wrong pump even though OPGI says it is the right pump for a 350 V8 with A/C. Once the pump is mounted on the engine the bracket just won't fit.

That pump looks correct for 1968-71ish, and it does look correct to match the "H" shaped alternator brackets. Do the power steering brackets you have look like these?

You should also have a threaded stud on the water pump and the upper bolt for the timing tab, like these

John, thanks for the pictures. They are sure better than looking at black and white drawings. I do have a threaded stud on the water pump, but I'm going to have to put one on the timing tab. I believe I have three brackets.

There is a mount on the block right in front of the manifolds driver side, I take it that is the wrong placement for another threaded stud?

The arm that runs straight back on the pump goes into the first exhaust manifold hole. That wasn't a stud, just a bolt long enough to go through the bracket, manifold into the block. Then there's a hole low on the block below that, its a larger bolt. I think 5/8 or 11/16 socket to fit that bolt. It will also have a spacer between the bracket and block. These will definitely help me out, John. It sucks that my manual does not include the spacers, good thing someone posted that thread. Tomorrow I'll give that area another look and take a few photos. The spacers will hopefully come on by this weekend.

All Saginaw pumps use the same pump body casting and are dimensionally identical (including the mounting bolt hole locations). Only the sheet metal reservoir changes, and that can be swapped from one pump body to the other. As noted, you have the correct 1968-up reservoir. Did you not keep the old pump for comparison?

I did find the old pump today and I have all three brackets hooked up to the pump and ready to go. I'm just going to need the two spacers described in the diagram and I'll give it a go once the weather cools down a bit.

The hole on the manifold where the straight bracket mount should clear when I install headers, but only time will tell.
