Valve cover vacuum line

Hey all. New to the forum. I have an 1976 olds cutlass 442 with a stock 350

recently I swapped out exhaust manifolds for headers

more out needs more in. So I swapped to a more open air cleaner set up. Well. The oem air cleaner has a few vacuum lines used to for air quality stuff. One of those was the breather for the valve cover.

so this led me to changing the valve covers out. The new valve covers have a different breather hole than stock. So I got new breathers to eliminate the hoses it used to need

well there’s a hose that goes from the old breather to the carb (pictures attached). If I just do a vacuum delete on that hose the car runs like crap and wants to stall. If I leave it open the car idles super high and then stalls. If I put the old breath on the end of the hose I can get the car to run after a few pushes of the throttle.

is there something I’m missing? A different way of doing this? Help!!

I see a PCV valve that needs to be installed in the valve cover. Your engine needs that on one side to pull blowby gases into the carb to be burned, and a fresh air inlet (vent with filter) on the other side.

All you really needed to do was remove the hose/pipe from the air cleaner to the valve cover vent filter.

I see that and a missing nipple that attaches to the choke pull off. They come loose, mine pops out and needs pushed back in
