vaccuum advance position
What position is the vaccuum advance suppose to be in when your timing is correct?I have installed a pertronix ignitor in the previous points distributor. It starts great runs great except for the small miss I think I'm one tooth off.Everything is new wires, distributor, plugs, cap, coil.I did not by the blaster coil for the pertronix could this be a problem.Right now the advance is sitting at the 11 o'clock positon towards firewall seems to far for me.If I try to turn it back towards the valve cover the timing becomes to slow I'm between 8 and 10 degrees right now.
I have a Pertronix ignition in my 64 Olds and I never installed the Blaster Coil. It runs well. You shouldn't change your timing once you install the Pertronix kit. Keep it at the factory spec, unless you are running a radical cam or aftermarket carburetor and intake.
I agree. To do this you have to remove the distibutor and stick a screwdriver down the hole and move the oil pump back just a tad. This will give the desired position. I am so particular about this stuff I have to have my vaccuum advance in just the right place where it looks perfect. It will work turned in any position as long as you are firing number one cylinder on number one spark plug wire. You could probably leave it alone and it will work fine. As long as the timing is set to the right advance.
