Transmission Cooler Lines Stripped

I recently had to replace my radiator because it was leaking coolant. So I went over to Oreilly's and pickup a copper/brass 4 core radiator. I managed to get the radiator installed and connected up the hoses and the upper transmission line. The bottom line looks like its stripped, not the threads but the head of the fitting. I tried to tighten it as best as I could but tranny fluid keeps leaking. Do I have to replace the whole transmission line or is there anyway to replace the fitting.

Doesn't look totally shot. Looks like a proper line wrench would still work.

what are you using to tighten it with? a proper line wrench should allow you to snug it down properly.

if not you might be able to cut off the flare on the line and re-flare the line with a new fitting as long as there is some play in the line.

You can go down to your local parts store or Sears and get single 1/2 line wrench. If the wrench doesn't want to slide over the nut you may need to file the burs down but it should cure your problem.

It looks to me like some of the threads are completely shaved off. I would cut the end, reflare and put on a new fitting. Certainly you must have that much play in the line - we are talking what - less than 1/2 inch right?

X2 on this idea, best way to solve the issue. If the line is too short to do this then you can always couple in a short length of new tube to fix it.

I bought the line wrench but still was not able to tighten the line enough to stop the leaking. So i ended up removing the radiator and inspected the fitting. The lower fitting was defective, it was only threaded partially. So I returned the radiator and ordered a new one.
