I'd guess the center is TDC. Clean it a little better it may explain itself to you.

Your Chassis Service Manual shows this very clearly:

It's always good to look in the manual when you're not sure of something.

Is this for the '69? If so, then that's your problem, because this is a '65 to '67 timing tab.

Does your car have the original motor?

Sorry for the confusion.

While I agree that the manual is a necessity, you don't need it to answer this question. Just LOOK at the timing tab:

The punched hole on the RH side is an "0", as in zero degrees.

The two punched holes on the LH side are a "1" and a "0". as in ten degrees.

I agree with that. I was just looking for what I saw in the manual. To me it looked like holes and notches. My block casting numbers are 395558 2 with number 5 heads. I can't read the engine vin number. I thought it was a correct 69.

Your block and head numbers are right for '69 and wrong for '67 and earlier, so it looks like someone stuck an early timing tab on a later engine.

Why ask why, I guess.

That tab is wrong for a #5 headed engine, so makes me wonder what else is wrong.

Will that incorrect tab line up correctly with the mark on the balancer, or will it be off by some amount?

It will be fine (or, at least within production tolerances). The 1964 330 is the only Olds motor with a totally different tab and scribe mark location.

The timing marks differ of course between the tiny ringless hub-only balancer as used on 2-bbl 330's and VIN-Y 307's... and the larger OD damper-balancers used on real engines.

[dons asbestos underwear for the ensuing flame war pertaining to how a 330 2-bbl is not a "real engine"]
