Surging at wide open throttle

Car runs great, but today and only at WOT going into 3rd and 4th, it won't go faster than 50 and is surging. Go stop go stop and it inches above 50. If I don't floor it, it's fine. I did notice some wires that got burnt, but it didn't look like they where burned thru, otherwise I would have replaced the wire sections.

Car ran awesome yesterday! Fastest 1/4 mile times ever!

What air cleaner is on there? I've found that when people changed it or flipped the cover over these issues arise.

I will also x2 on the fuel filter or pump.

And I will also add a catalytic converter to the mix.

I have an 80's 442 dual snorkel air cleaner on it with a K&N stock size filter. Been on there since February

I had a stock paper filter that hardened into rock, basically, after three years and less than 1000 miles. It's worth checking.

Tru Blu, sounds like a good place to start. I broke the steal fuel line and replaced it with a rubber one, maybe it's kinked somewhere

Is it a CC engine? I remember turning the air cleaner lid over on a 305 sbc caused the same symptoms you describe. Just saying.

I've had a catalytic converter do that on a furd f150, got to where it wouldn't pull a tiny hill. But it also sounds like it could be a fuel problem...Tedd
