Stupid Question Needs Answer

The water jacket bolts if that is for sure what they are are located on the sides of the block right? How far in are they supposed to be tightened down? Can you over tighten them and block off a water passage?

Thanks, Mike

If you mean the 2 small plugs on each lower side of the block they just need to be tight so they dont leak.

Those "bolts" are 1/4" NPT plugs and have tapered threads. Put sealer on them and tighten moderately.

I used to screw a petcock into one so I could drain the block. Like the brass type they used on old radiators.

Just a moderate 'snug' will do it. If they leak, tighten a little more. Being tapered, they seal up easily (even if you forget the sealer)...

I use petcocks on the fronts and plugs on the rear .
Much easier to drain since I seem to be changing cams 2 or 3 times a year.
I sure hope I am done with this cam testing this year. It's a lotta work .
I use teflon tape on the threads so I get a good seal without tightening to much.
