Starter won't stop!
Hey guys,
Me and my buddy were out working on my 64 Cutlass with a 71 350 engine. We got it idling and then turned it off. The next time I tried to fire it up the starter would not stop when I turned the ignition off. Does anyone know why this would happen? All we did was change the fluids and spark plugs then mess with the idle on the carb.... We had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop trying to start. I disconnected the ignition switch and the problem persisted.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
-Mike

It could be wiring, it could be the clip to the starter dive broke and its hanging up in the flexplate, not pulling back to disengage the solenoid. Check your voltage with the key off and make sure the purple wire has no voltage.

I'll add that while a wiring issue or broken snap ring is far more likely, I've also had an oddball problem where there was a burr on the starter shaft that prevented the starter drive from retracting. That one took a long time and a lot of head scratching to find!
