We were replacing the plugs and wires on Josh's '66 F85 with the 330 today, as part of our project to get it on the road.

The old plugs were pretty gooped up - they were all covered with a black goop. Drier than goop, I guess, and not really oily at all, but just thick black build up.

What does this say about the condition of the engine, and what is the best course of action to correct? We are replacing all the usual stuff - cap, rotor, points, plugs, wires, PCV.

We have not ran the car much (just got it last fall, and the gas tank has been out most of that time), but it seemed to run quite good, with no obvious bad signs.

Thoughts?

Those are good guide charts J-Chicago. It does sound like carbon fouled, but it could also be running fat (over rich condition). Good Luck
