Ryan Weaver 1969 W-31 350 SBO engine build
#81
Progress report: June 14 2016
I am getting final quotation from a local engine machine shop.
My W31 engine build will be just that, a very stock W31.
Measurement: "blueprint" document will be updated of all measurements.
Intake: will be restored and if needed skimmed on the sealing surfaces.
Cylinder heads: full rebuild, deck, bronze guide liners, hardened seats, three angle valve job, 2.000/1.625 SS valves, CC 2 chambers per head, ARP Bolts
Valve train: "K" Comp Cams kit specifics TBD. New cam, lifters, timing chain, valve springs, retainers, seals, locks, stamped steel rockers, push rods, all COMP CAMS.
Cylinder block: Mag, pressure test, line hone with ARP bolts, bore and hone with torque plate, deck square to crank CL, Re and Re brass freeze plugs, gallery plugs, distributor gear "squirter" cam bearings,
Crankshaft: Mag, check pilot bushing ID, Grind, deburr oil holes, polish, set thrust/end play, convert to 292 Ford lip seal/rear main seal.
Balance: external balance, resurface flywheel, new harmonic balancer (I will someday have Damper Doctor rebuild my W31 HB but not this time)
Connecting Rods: Resize, bead blast, add ARP bolts to the original rods, with press in pins.
Pistons/Rings/Pins: Quoting options for this item, at minimum hypereutectic, or Speed Pro Forged with 5/64, 5/64, 3/16, at maximum Wiseco ProTrue 4032 Forged pistons with 1/16, 1/16, 3/16 rings. TBD
Oiling System: No modifications, new Melling standard volume, standard pressure pump.
Bearings: Clevite throughout.
Metals: Restored original valve covers, I will find/purchase a new timing chain cover as mine is pitted, and I plan to use my original oil pan.
Paint: I am thinking of using Fusicks...........
As I said up front a very stock W31:-)
I plan to install the engine in the frame in November and then put the body on the frame soon following that.
Mark "Cutlassefi" has been helping me make the final selections (THANKS MARK) it is hard to take information for multiple sources and make good decisions, and I have seen many people on here have Mark as their go to guy so I am tagging along on that:-)
