If it is leaking bad enough that it has to be changed, give it shot. I personally have had more Transmission leakage issues of multiple makes, giving sealers in them a shot since I already changed the critical seals.
Bob,
Most of those magic chemicals are just a strong solvent that softens and swells rubber seals. If your Olds engine still has the original rope seal I cannot imagine it doing any good. But you never know

Thanks for the response. Don't have the tools to pull an engine...but...finished my taxes and will hopefully have enough sent back to get it fixed. I just got her last week and found that it was leaking on paperwork the PO had from the day before he sold it to me. Going to a vintage car show a couple miles from my house and going to get a list from the local "old timers" on where they take their vehicles that are honest and trustworthy who know what they're doing.
It is time to upgrade to the Ford 292, pretty sure that is the neoprene rubber seal repackaged fo the SBO or the AMC straight 6 seal. Both are neoprene and are much easier to install than a rope seal, especially removing the old one. The AMC seal is more difficult to install because the ears need cut off and is a tighter fit, I actually mangled one piece because of the tight fit. The 292 seal is super easy to install. The hard part is the time removing the old rope seal.
