Rust is the devil

Well its like this, this car is a 1972 cutlass 350 rocket 4door, this car was burned just the front sent and headliner but I had to get a new windshield so I took the old one off and like that I saw rust and a soft spot as wide as a thumb waiting for me to touch it. So the guy tells me he cant put the windshield on with it like this gave me till Monday to fix it just wanna know would fiberglass fix this?

Sure. For a while.

How long do you want this car to last?

The best way to do it is to grind and / or sandblast all of the metal down to where there's no rust at all, then weld in the parts that are gone, but if the rust is cleaned well, you'll probably get several years out of fiberglass, especially if you garage the car.

Wetal is the only permanent repair. The good thing is that this is a very common issure and there are lots of threads here on how others have repaired them. Search windshield rust weld and you should get a start.

I honestly wasn't sure if it was a new product or process like that spray welding that they used to do. Wonder if that ever really worked?
