Problems after engine swap

Hi everyone.

Last week I swaped the 260 in my 81 Cutlass for a 307

Now the car starts up fine, but dies quickly, the more gas I pump in with the pedal, the longer it will go.

I decided to take of the carb yeasterday and se if I can locate the problem, and make it look a little nicer.

So give me some ideas, what could be wrong?

And I suspect that at least one person on the forum has done this swap

Sorry for bad English// Regards Niklas

Could it be the carb is dirty or the choke isn't working. Does the choke close when you first pump the pedal?

Yes, check the operation of the choke and the choke pulloffs. If the choke pulloff is not working the engine will start and run for a few seconds and then stall. You can check them with a hand held vacuum pump.

Yeah I was going to say Carb as well.

Is the choke plate shut when it stalls? If you can prop it open, just a little, doesn't have to be opened all the way, it shoudl start right up with no problems.

I just put a screwdriver in there until I start it, then pull it outr after the car starts running

Where did the 307 come from?

Was it a computer controlled 307? If so, which carb and distributor are you using?

I can't speak to European cars, but a US-spec 307 from that vintage WOULD have been computer controlled. These engines will NOT run correctly without changing the carb and distributor to pre-computer versions. The two things to look for are the connectors in the photo posted above and the presence or lack of a vacuum advance can on the distributor. If there is no vacuum advance can and/or the carb looks like the one above, you must change those parts.

Yes it has

So, replace distributor and carb can solve it.
